Skating Girl 12S05 (1963 - 1965)
‘On the ice rink, Sindy dazzles in her circular red felt skating skirt’
Excellent fantasy play value! Ice skating was a popular pursuit for 60’s teenagers and this outfit ticks all the boxes, sexy little skirt, realistic ice skates, those cosy red tights, beautifully co-ordinated with pom pom’s - another 60’s obsession!
Shown below are two variants, the MIE and HK versions loose, and a boxed Hong Kong issue. Also see below the outfits’ resurrection in 1968 for the ‘new look’ side-part doll.

Career Girl
Left, 1968 Ice Skater 12GSS3 which was basically a boxed doll, wearing a re released version (old stock?) of a Made in England Skating Girl outfit, with the mysterious RED pom poms. Though the doll, a 1968 sidepart New Look Sindy, was ‘made in Hong Kong’, she has been found boxed, in this outfit, in both English and HK boxes. Confused?
Here we have the two variants, the Made in England issue which was first produced in 1963 (1 and pictured on doll) and gradually replaced by the Hong Kong release (loose, 2 boxed, 3) which would have started being issued towards the end of 1964.
1 - MIE issue with a thicker stripe on jumper, hat, and a TOTALLY different scarf! The boots are bigger, the tights are thinner fabric (therefore Sindy’s legs do not look as chunky!)
2 - HK variant - see differences above, but this is also a slightly more orange red, not as ‘pillarbox’ in colour.
MIE has a white flat popper at back neck of jumper and back of skirt, MIHK smaller, domed white poppers in same place. The tights elastic on both is prone to perishing, as is the elastic band on the hat. Do NOT wash this! the colours run like mad!
ICE SKATING AND ICE RINKS Were incredibly popular in the 1960‘s, a place for young teenagers to meet, away from prying parental eyes and a ‘respectable’ pastime for both sexes. Pictured (right) a 60’s poster for Silver Blades, owned by the very popular Mecca, which started in the mid 50’s and spread to every major UK town by the 60’s. They are advertising free boot hire for one session - which are identical to Sindy’s!

LEFT - this 7" promotional record was distributed within Italy, and Sindy is here wearing Skating Girl on the front cover! on the reverse it says (roughly translated!) ;
‘Here’s Sindy, the friend for all girls. Sindy, the doll with beautiful clothes. Sindy is more than a doll, she is a smart, happy and self possessed girl’. It then goes on to wax lyrical about her gorgeous clothes!
